The end of the Polaris era showing a  Resolution class submarine. 

There were 4 submarines in this class - Resolution, Repulse, Renown & Revenge.

Each submarine was capable of carrying sixteen A3 Polaris missiles with a range of 2500 nautical miles.

Repulse was the last of the 4 Polaris submarines to be decommissioned in August 1996.

Over a period of 28 years' service beginning in 1968 these four submarines completed a staggering 229 unbroken patrols and never once fired a weapon  in anger.

In the background it is possible to see the Faslane landscape during this period.
