The USS
Nautilus (SSN 571) is pictured here entering New York Harbor
in the late 1950’s.
Nautilus was
the world’s first nuclear powered submarine. She was also the world’s
first ship to reach the geographic North Pole.
Nautilus
arrived in Groton, Connecticut, July
6, 1985 after a full career. Historic
ship Nautilus, joined by the Submarine Force Museum, opened to the public
as the first and finest exhibit of its kind in the world. She is an
impressive sight.
