"Pacific Morning - Surfaced"
Artist: Jim Christley
Original painting is watercolor on 300# Hot Press Paper measuring approx 9.5" x 13.5" 16" x 20" matted (40cm x 50cm matted)
Subject: Guppy conversion submarine

The story behind the painting...

Western Pacific deployments in diesel submarines meant a long transit from Pearl or San Diego to Japan and back. Some days were rough and rainy, some cold and really rough but the Pacific had its wonderful moments of long rollers and wonderful warm sun. This painting is of a guppy-conversion submarine in the mid-1960s making that long trip home after being deployed for six months or more.
